Space UK's Bio
Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Take That, James Brown, George Michael, The Sugababes, Chaka Khan, The Spice Girls – what do these acts all have in common? They’ve all used members of Space UK as members of their backing bands and/or featured them on their studio albums.
Space UK are an eight-piece band made up of players, singers, writers and producers at the very top of their game. They are the only band of their kind to offer a MOBO winner and international number 1 chart-topper as a core member featured vocalist. Space UK’s founder members are long established songwriters and producers for all the major labels, with a long list of pop, dance, classical, TV and feature film credits. Space UK are based in London and have been performing for over 10 years together.
- At times some of the Space UK members may be unavailable if they are on tour with a major artist, however our pool of musicians are of the same high standard and are well known on the session/touring circuit. We are always available to work on any given date due to our network of singers and musicians and often send out one or more band on any given date.
Anita Kelsey – lead singer:
- MOBO winner, # 1 chart-topper and Universal in-house songwriter, Anita is best known for her major club & national hits with D*Note and Sunship. Her involvement with the club scene has seen her collaborating with the industry’s most respected and cutting-edge producer/DJ’s; Stonebridge, Fedde Le Grande, Markus Shulz and Tiesto amongst others.
- Type in the name Anita Kelsey in your browser and over 400,000 pages of her work to date will come up!!
- Anita’s ability to deliver many different styles has also led to work on Walt Disney’s Merlin, Bring Me The Head of Mavis Davis, and the cult sci-fi classic film Dark City in which Jennifer Connolly mimes to Anita’s renditions of ‘Sway’ and ‘The Night Has A Thousand Eyes’.
- As a backing vocalist, Anita’s credits include Kings Of Leon, The Spice Girls, Bill Wyman, Boy George, Razorlight, Damon Albarn, Bond, Alison Limerick, Sybil, Russell Watson and Bo Selecta!
Gordon Hulbert – Keyboards/MD:
- Musical director Gordon Hulbert has been in the MD chair for Chaka Khan, Anastacia, Gabrielle, Alison Limerick & Imagination amongst others and his work with Heatwave, Alexander O’Neal, Odyssey etc has given him a unique insight into what makes these acts some of the the foremost live dance acts in the business.
- Gordon is also a prolific producer within the dance arena, producing artists such as Alison Limerick, Robert Owens, Shena, Ron Carroll, Angie Brown and Anita Kelsey. Other credits include Stonebridge, Chris Kaeser, Housequake, Armada Records and Black Hole Recordings.
- As a composer for soundtracks Gordon has a long list of credits with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Parade Films and is commissioned on a regular basis to release instrumental and vocal pieces with the UK’s top five multi-media companies.
Dave Ital – guitar/backing vocals:
- Currently on tour with Anastacia, Dave has also performed and recorded with Beyoncé, The Sugababes, Level 42, Craig David, Liberty X, Tom Jones, M-People, Bryan Ferry, Rick Astley, Jason Rebello, Jocelyn Brown, Mica Paris, Beverly Knight, Take That, Dina Carroll, Urban Species, Tom Robinson, Candi Staton, Lulu, Bobby Womack, Des’ree, Incognito, Kele Le Roc, reggae legends Lee Scratch Perry and Desmond Dekker and Brit R+B artists Taio Cruz.
Paul Jones – drums:
- From Wembley arena supporting The Spice Girls to futuristic hip hop dance act Spacek at the recent MTV awards, Don Blackman, to performing on Top Of the Pops with dance act Modjo, it becomes apparent just how versatile Paul’s drumming is and why so many acts are lining up to work with him. Performing regularly with the house band at one of London’s top industry nights ‘The 10 Rooms’ also gave him the chance to back such acclaimed artists as Justin Timberlake, Macy Gray and The Neptunes. Currently working with Mica Paris.
Simon Green – Lead vocals:
- A recording artist with Groovefinder and Soulfuric Records, Simon Green is a singer to be reckoned with. He is also in great demand as a backing vocalist, having honed his skills with the likes of Chaka Khan, Jools Holland, A Tribe Called Quest, Heaven 17, Sybil and Russell Watson. His playing can also be heard on Noel McCoy and Vanessa Simon’s most recent albums. Alexis also travels all over the world as part of Billy Ocean’s touring band.
Space UK are an eight-piece band but can add extra brass, percussion and vocalists when required. We can also downsize to a six-piece band although the sound is much fuller, richer and closer to the original tracks when a brass section is present! On certain occasions Space UK have been asked to perform as a trio/quartet and this is achievable with fully programmed backing tracks which we’ve prepared in our own studio. The genres we cover are soul, funk, motown, dance, pop, rock, disco, acid jazz and 21st century chart toppers.
We can also perform as a jazz trio/quartet/quintet although this is usually under ’The Anita Kelsey trio/quartet/quintet’.
Our own compilation party CD’s can be played before, in between and after live sets, to keep the dance-floor full. We normally play two sets of up to an hour each.
We do not own our own PA system but our quotes will always include the quote we receive from trusted PA companies around the country with whom we’ve built up a good working relationship. Basic stage lighting (minimum 4 x par cans on a stand) is always included in with our quote.
