The Debonaires Dance Band's Bio

The Debonaires have been variously described as a Dance Band, Vintage Function Band, Swing Band, ‘Little’ Big Band and Vintage Dance Orchestra.

They play music which has been specially orchestrated, to suit the very flexible and rich sounding line-up of our 8-member band.

For Festival and Theatre stages, the Debonaires make a big visual and musical impact emulating period ensembles from dixie jazz to the big band sound.

For Private Parties and Weddings, the same band is optimal in size to give an authentic musical performance, whilst being affordable to hire and economic in terms of the limited space at some venues.

Jazz Clubs and Concerts. The Debonaires love to perform concerts and would welcome any opportunities to perform our concert repertoire to a wider audience.

All our musicians are professionally qualified and have a love of this music. There is a range of age groups in the band, but for all of us, we ‘choose’ the great jazz and swing based music of the Dance Band days when music was made by Composers, Musicians and Bandleaders rather than Producers and Technicians.

The Debonaires play music from the time of our parents or grandparents but remember. This is still, as it was, young people’s music and has the same energy and excitement as it always has, especially played live. It also, crucially, retains its own charm and sophistication.

Their repertoire consists of styles from:

  • 1920’s. Brush up your Charleston, Black Bottom and Bunny Hug. Boo Boo B’Doo!
  • 1930’s/40’s Big Band era & Hollywood/Broadway classics, e.g. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Louis Jordan, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Ratpack etc.
  • 1950’s extending our swing jive offering with some Rock ‘n Roll from e.g. Carl Perkins & Connie Francis etc.
  • 1960’s Lots of Beat Music and cool sounds from e.g., Dusty Springfield, Carole King, Bobby Vee, Bobby Darin, Martha Reeve, Dionne Warwick etc. Groovy Baby!

Whether you need a specialist dance style like Strict Tempo, Swing Dance or Ballroom, or if you need a general Function Band for all sorts of guests, we can offer you a themed evening or an exciting mix of all sorts of upbeat styles that anyone can dance to.

“Thank you SO much to you all for playing the reception music at our wedding on Saturday. You were absolutely fantastic! You created the most warm, festive atmosphere to accompany the mulled wine and went completely out of your way to include songs we’d asked for. It was exactly what we wanted!” Scarlett McGuinley-Hughes
